This website covers the family genealogies of my Mother’s parents. She is Sarah Kent Blakemore Drummond. Four surnames stand out in this lineage from past to present.

Medallion

McGavock, Cloyd, Kent and Bell Family

With many collateral branches which will include my Father’s side. These families came to Virginia in the early days prior to the Revolutionary War and along the Wilderness Road amongst Indian uprisings. Some lost their lives in these events.Their stories are ones of courage, hard work and persistance in establishing homes and lives here in the Commonwealth and beyond.

I am Frank O Drummond III and though I grew up in Central Florida I always considered Virginia as my “family home”.
Both of my parents and their parents were born and raised here.

So when my mother challenged me to take care of our family home Rockwood I did not think twice. Always a stop in our visits to Virginia and I spent a summer here on the farm.

It never crossed my mind that I would become a caretaker of the property one day and I knew little of the family or its history. After ten years I am amazed at the scope and reach of my ancestors. Blessed with visits from cousins who have supplied me with vast amounts of information. I will slowly attempt to apply this knowledge to this website in the hope that it will allow my fellow cousins to learn about themselves.

If you would like to join me in this effort please do. Many have lead the way and here are some of them.

Mother’s Father John A Blakemore was a lawyer and a professional geneologist in his latter years. I remember him well sitting in his upstairs office with a Royal Typewriter and thousands of cataloged 3×5 cards. Parts of his work and books on the Buchanan’s will be included.

Great Grandfather Bell hired Reverand Gray to write the history and geneology of the McGavock Family and he did a wonderful job creating our “Herd Book”.

Isabelle Bell wrote a definitive book on the North Mountain Bell’s and it is the go to for history on our Bell side.

The Crawford family from Texas has also contributed on the McGavock connections.

Our cousin Sharron Sampson has added to the collection
as have many others and I hope to add their work as we go on.So join us on this interesting journey. Thanks
